Want to Adopt a Forever Friend?
You're looking for a great pet, and our shelter animals are looking for great homes! To make sure that you and your new pet will be a perfect match, we have established the following adoption process:
1. Look for your new pet
- Take some time to walk through the shelter
- Browse through the animals on our Web site
2. Get acquainted
- Note the kennel number or animal ID (on the Web site) and call or visit our customer service specialists, 269-7499
- They will tell you all about that pet and arrange a get acquainted visit
- You can bring children, family members, and other pets to meet the animals here
3. Schedule an adoption*
- If you want to adopt a pet you have visited, the customer service staff will check the animal record
- If you are first to select the pet, we will schedule an adoption
- If there is already an adoption scheduled on the pet you are interested in, you will be given the date and time of the appointment. You can then check back with us to see if the adoption went through and if not, you can schedule an appointment to adopt the pet.
4. Complete the pre-adoption paperwork
- Fill out a Pet Match Adoption Application. Click here to download the application.
- Watch a video about caring for your new pet (optional)
- Provide written approval from your landlord or verify that you own your home
5. Come to the shelter for your adoption appointment
- The appointment will last approximately 45 minutes
- Our adoption specialist will help you decide whether the pet you've chosen will fit well with your lifestyle and give you information about training and caring for your new pet
- You will fill out and sign our adoption contract
- Unless the pet is already spayed or neutered, we will deliver it to the veterinarian for sterilization before you take it home. You can pick up your new friend at the veterinarian office after the surgery.
6. Enjoy your new forever friend
- Call us if you have questions or concerns about your pet; we will do everything we can to help you and your pet have a successful long term relationship
*Please note: because our animals are strays, the law requires that we keep them at the shelter for at least three working days while we wait for an owner to reclaim them. During the holding period, you can still get acquainted with an animal and list yourself as a potential adopter.
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees include the animal spay or neuter (if needed), a veterinarian's health exam, first vaccination, microchip, collar, identification tag, and leash or cat carrier and a small bag of dog or cat food. Plus - you get a great new forever friend. What a deal!
